1 Hour Trips
Head just over an hour south to the center of Sicily to a city called Caltanisetta. Be sure to visit Palazzo Moncada is a large building, remained unfinished, erected in 1635 by Guglielmo Moncada. It has finely decorated corbels in the balconies of the main floor. Caltanisetta is also the gateway to the rest of Sicily, as it lies right in the heart of the island. Head just over an hour west of Palermo and see what little remains of the ancient Lilybaeum. Fragments of the city walls, squared stones, and some foundations of buildings between the walls and the sea are visible. to the east of the town is a great fosse which defended it on the land side. The modern town takes the shape of the romand camp within the earlier city, one of the gates of which still existed in 1887.
