St. Bartholomeus' Cathedral

30 minute trips
Frankfurt might offer the most metropolitan like city in all of Germany. While Berlin offers more to see and more history, Frankfurt offers a more city like feel. It has some of the highest high rises in the country and looks similar to New York City. Here the European Central bank as well as the Frankfurt stock exchange are located. Frankfurt also offers one of the top ten largest airports in the world. Frankfurt also offers the second largest festival in the country, the Museumsuferfest (Museums Riverbank Festival). It is one of the biggest cultural festivals in Germany which attracts more than 3 million visitors over a period of 3 days, and it takes place yearly at the end of August. The town hall is a good place to see, located in the center of the city and is actually nine houses all connected. St. Paul's Church (Paulskirche) is a national historic monument in Germany with great political symbolism, because it was the seat of the first democratically elected Parliament in 1848. The Zeil is Frankfurt's main shopping street and one of the most crowded in Germany. The street is a pedestrian-only area and is bordered by two large plazas, Hauptwache in the west and Konstablerwache in the east. The Hauptwache (Main Watch) is a baroque building built in 1730, formerly used as a prison. There is plenty to see within the greater city (suggested 3 days).

1 Hour Trips
Head on over to darmstadt just over a half hour trip south of Frankfurt. In Darmstadt you will see some unique picturesqu buildings. Here Frankensteins castle lies and is one of the most visited places in the Europe. Be sure to check out the Waldspirale ('Forest Spiral'), a residential complex by Austrian Friedensreich Hundertwasser, was built 1998–2000. An almost surreal building, it is internationally famous for its almost absolute rejection of rectangular forms, down to every window having a different shape, the style being a trademark of Hundertwasser's work. Heidleburg is located just about an hour south of Frankfurt and is home to the most visited castle in germany. While the castle is the most famous part of Heidelburg, the city itself is enchanting.
